Lucky in Reno

The National Air Race Championships held in Reno last week produced a few exiting minutes. This photo is what is left of a P-51 Mustang after the pilot experienced mechanical difficulties during the Sunday Sport  Gold Race.  He pulled out of the race and attempted a dead stick landing. Conditions at the time had a slight crosswind unfortunately he lost control as he touched the runway and cartwheeled the plane down the side of the runway coming to rest behind a fighter jet parked on the ramp. Amazingly the pilot actually walked away from this crash. If you click on the photo it will enlarge so you can see what is left. One Lucky Pilot is all I can Say!!
